Here are the questions our clients ask most about MM2H. Based on the MOTAC MM2H official website (September 2026); rules may change and the latest official announcements prevail. For anything else, please contact us.

Who can apply for MM2H?

Foreign nationals from countries with diplomatic relations with Malaysia. The main applicant must be at least 25 years old (21 for the SEZ/SFZ category).

Can I apply on my own?

No. All applications must be submitted through a MOTAC-licensed MM2H agent; direct applications are not accepted. MAINHOME SOLUTION (MM2H) is a MOTAC-licensed agent, licence no. MM2H913.

What is the difference between the four categories?

Mainly the fixed deposit amount, pass duration, minimum property price and whether you may work in Malaysia. See the category table on our home page for the full figures.

Do I need to prove my income?

The current categories have no monthly income threshold, but OSC may ask for proof of income or assets, such as bank statements, payslips or an employment letter.

Can my family join me?

Yes. Spouses, parents and parents-in-law may join as dependants. Children under 21 may join; children aged 21–34 must be unmarried and unemployed; children with medically certified disabilities have no age limit.

How long must I stay in Malaysia each year?

Participants under 50 must stay a cumulative 90 days per year, which the main applicant and/or dependants may meet together. There is no requirement for those aged 50 and above.

Can I withdraw my fixed deposit?

After approval, up to 50% may be withdrawn, only for property purchase, education, medical and tourism purposes, subject to OSC rules.

Must I buy property in Malaysia?

Yes. Minimum prices by category: Silver RM600,000, Gold RM1,000,000, Platinum RM2,000,000. SEZ/SFZ participants must buy a new unit from the Forest City developer. Silver, Gold and Platinum participants must complete the purchase within 1 year of endorsement; SEZ/SFZ before endorsement. The property cannot be sold within 10 years unless upgrading to a higher-value property.

Can I work or run a business in Malaysia?

Only Platinum participants may conduct business, invest and work in Malaysia. Gold, Silver and SEZ/SFZ participants are not permitted to.

What fees are involved?

Government fees include the processing fee (RM5,000 for the main applicant, RM2,500 per dependant) and a participating fee by category. Agent service charges follow the Price Control and Anti-Profiteering Act 2011 (Act 723). See the category table on our home page, or contact us.

What happens if the main applicant passes away?

The pass can be transferred to a registered dependant.

Are there any tax benefits?

Foreign-sourced income and interest on fixed deposits in Malaysia are tax-exempt, subject to the latest LHDN rules.
